Taking the Long Way Home describes the Author’s early life and a later decision not to return from two years with the British Antarctic Survey on the research ship ‘Shackleton’ but instead to jump ship in Montevideo and return to Scotland via South, Central and North America and Iceland. This was just the start of many later travels with the British Council, the Scottish Examination Board, and Scripture Union to places such as India, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Siberia and others.
