Trialogue between the Wizard of Oz, calvinist theology and the story of a seriously ill child
In January 1990, seven year old Ciaran MacFhionnlaigh was struck by a virus in the brain. This paralysed him for three months and threatened his long-term health. This book takes Ciaran’s story to 1993,; it is a long poem, a kind of three part dialogue between Ciaran’s story, the Wizard of Oz, and the author’s calvinist theology which is under pressure.
Each page has Gaelic on one side and English on the other, which will help those learning Gaelic. The author taught himself Gaelic, but is now well-known as an accomplished poet in the language.
“This is a very valuable prose poem, honest and honourable as it strives to understand God’s purposes in the midst of personal pain. It will appeal to both fluent speakers and learners of Gaelic.” Donald E. Meek, erstwhile Professor of Celtic at Aberdeen University
