As Jenny Campbell’s first collection slips like a boat into the river of contemporary poetry, it bears an offering of fresh poems on sea and seasons, birds and bards, wind and windows, with two poems exploring her Ulster roots, ‘between the orange and the green’.
Painting and poetry have always been part of Jenny’s creative life. Her cover painting is called ‘Where Life had Been’, and suggests the skeletal structure of a fish seen from underneath, with light on the water. Sometimes she even scribbles verses into the paint!
You think the words are all yours,
your reasoning a savage knife,
but my words are the words that cradle life. (from ‘The River Speaks’)
